Shadowport Charters Bring Prosperity to Spacers
Posted by: Anax Noctru, Byblos Drive Yards
Date: Year 25 Day 275 From the Tavern Droid Detector Inn Derra in Peggy Chin on Asteroid 24-K-4 Theta (71, -163).

*As the commercial break ends, the anchor turns to face the holocorder….*

Tonight, we bring news of the Shadowport network of cities catering to bounty hunters.  This endeavor has brought stability to many small, uncharted systems- an unlikely outcome given the usual faire we see in Deep Space.  Here is Clarisa Vidoil with more.

*The scene cuts to a city in turbulent decay. The reporter’s voice comes over the footage.*

On the left, this is the asteroid community, Windtide just a year ago.  Most residents here tried to scrape together a way of life on the outskirts of the Jospro Sector.  Many content to live as peaceful as they could but found it difficult due to the lawlessness that surrounded them.  They came to work in mining, or related fields, and found themselves embroiled in unrest.

And on the right, the same asteroid community a year later.  Their lives changed when city leaders signed charters with the Shadowport network.  With this, bounty hunter offices came in and brought order against the chaos.

When community members are asked about the changes, they express that they are more than pleased with the outcomes. *Image changes to someone being interviewed in a Shadowport city.*

“Oh, absolutely.  This place was rougher than an after-hours cantina on Nar Shaddaa.  The regular folk here couldn’t find a scrap of peace… It was a place on the verge of collapse.  But, Shadowport came in and saw the promise of its location and everything changed. After all, the last place a criminal wants to be is where all the Bounty Hunters are.”

We toured the small asteroid community and found the trappings of a well-run core world.  With vendors, galactic market access, and accommodations that cater to bounty hunters.  These asteroid cities are having a renaissance of prosperity.  Most residents pivot their careers to cater to the bounty hunters coming to the city.  As a result, many Shadowport systems see financial prosperity within months of signing on.

This mechanic was eager to elaborate for us..

“Yeah, that’s right.. I was a ship mechanic for a mining outfit and we were cut loose when the rudic run out.  Those bastards left us to rot.  Sure, they did well protecting us when the crystal was flowing.  But after? Nope.  A year of struggle and thugs.  Bandits above and on the streets.  Shadowport come in just in the nick of time and turned it right around.  They kept their promises.  And sure enough, in a month or so after, life got better.  I’m grateful.”

Shadowport, a division of Byblos Drive yards, clears the streets and space ways of their project cities and opens charters for bounty organizations around the galaxy.  These charters abide by rules and codes of conduct that create a symbiotic relationship for the population living around them.

Mayor Iok Velaran gave some insight on what it takes to crush the bandits that inhabit these asteroid systems..

“We came in at a time when two rival bandit groups were at war in the asteroid field around us and were able to snatch control from them in a brief conflict.  By the time either of those groups was able to bring in reinforcements, we had a fleet here encouraging them to pick somewhere else to live.  The transition this city has gone through is remarkable!”

Shadowports have brought stability to over two dozen asteroid systems and counting.  Of the ‘ports we visited, we found that commerce and prosperity follow closely with the bounty hunter organizations chartered with them.  Shadowport is intent at displacing bandits and insecurity where most governments have turned a blind eye to these communities.  Chances are, there is a Shadowport in your sector keeping the peace and bringing opportunity to civilians.
