Planetary Shields are ground based shields protecting a certain area from orbital incursion and bombardment, or protecting your space stations in orbit. They are projected from either Shield Generators or a Shield Projector. Planetary Shields from a Shield Generator can overlap each other to increase overall shield strength, while a Shield Projector will boost the protective shielding of your orbital stations.
A single Shield Generator covering an area will provide 10,000 points of shield strength to that area. Shields that have taken damage will recharge at 5% of their maximum strength, every hour until they are fully restored.
A single shield projector will provide an additional 20,000 points towards a Space Stations shielding. Shields that have taken damage will recharge at 5% of their maximum strength, every hour until they are fully restored.
Planetary Shields cover a 3x3 Area on the Atmospheric map. Due to the area covered, subsequent shield coverage of an area from a second shield generator will result in a stacking of shield strength. If fired upon, Shield Damage will be divided up evenly among all the shields covering the target location.
While a Shield Generator is active over an atmospheric square, travel between that square and the area below it are prohibited. Despite this, travel to the area below a shield can still be achieved via crossing terrain.
Adding a character or faction to the Computer Control Centre or shield generator crewlist allows the character or member of said faction to pass through the shield unhindered while being removed from the crew list will prevent travel.
Anybody who has privileges to edit the crewlist is considered on the crewlist, and cannot be blocked from passing through the shields. This includes the owner, manager and operator of the Computer Control Centre, as well as anybody with enough privileges if faction owned.
To activate a Shield Generator or Projector, the following conditions must be met.
To engage the Shield Generator, use the actions panel in the Control Room to navigate to the Shield Status page. From this page, you are able to view the status of the individual generator, with information such as whether or not it's powered, and whether it's active. Inside the Shield Status page, you will also be able to view a map of the planet, displaying it's current shield coverage with a blue semi-transparent tile.
Shields can be remotely activated from a Computer Control Centre located on the same planet. In order to activate your Shield Generator or Projector from a Computer Control Centre, you must first specify which Computer Control Centre you wish to delegate control to.
In order to do this, you must visit the Shield Generator or Projector, and while in the Shield area of the Control Room, access the Assign Control Centre tab. From this page, you're able to view a list of Computer Control Centres on the planet that are operated, managed, or owned players, or the player has privileges to assign. Choose from the list, and click assign to assign the Shield Generator or Projector to the Computer Control Centre.
A shield can only be assigned to one Computer Control Centre at any given time.
