Introduced in 21 BCGT by Gallofree Aerial Products, the MSP80 Pteropter Hover Pod was engineered to provide industrial miners with a rugged excavating platform that could transport them swiftly across pits and through tunnels. Ubrikkian repulsorlift vanes can bear as many as four workers and the chin-mounted repeating blaster cannon weakens stubborn rock formations to expose the valuable deposits. The 4-meter long skiff has a generous open-tailed bed and three landing legs that fold up when the speeder is in motion. A frontal durasteel screen protects the driver from flying debris while a vertical impact bar protects passengers from overhead hazards, and a set of high-intensity spotlights provide brilliant illumination underground.
While strictly marketed for commercial purposes, the rotating blaster is deadly and the open platform is a thrill to ride when the MSP80 is flown at top speed. These qualities have made the Pteropter attractive to the reckless, who appreciate its sense of freedom and destructive potential. While the Gallofree brand itself went bankrupt prior to Year 5 CGT, Hover Pods have become the centerpiece of a Trandoshan sport in which teams of mounted Scorekeeper devotees compete against one another for Jagannath points.
